Why people look beyond SendBoard

SendBoard earned its position: replies from cards, templates, Butler-triggered emails, any email provider, ~47,000 boards. The recurring reasons teams still go shopping:

• Per-user pricing. $6–12.50 per Trello user per month adds up fast on boards with many members — you pay for everyone who can touch the board, not just the people doing email.
• The forwarding architecture. SendBoard works on mail that reaches its intake address. Getting your existing address there means forwarding — which corporate mail policy frequently blocks outright. And your existing inbox history stays invisible.
• Reply fragmentation. Some users report replies spawning duplicate cards that need manual merging (community thread).
• Free-tier friction. The free plan caps at ~50 emails/month on one board and stamps "Powered by SendBoard" on your outgoing mail.

3. Hipporello Service Desk — when you need forms and a portal, not an inbox

Hipporello turns Trello into a service desk: web forms, a branded request portal, its own email intake addresses, automations, and an optional knowledge base. Requesters get status updates; agents work in Trello.

Trade-offs: it manages tickets sent to you — it never sees or manages your existing mailbox. The free plan's 5 cards/month is a demo, not a plan; Premium is $10/agent/month and the knowledge-base add-on is a steep $49.99/month.

Pick it if: intake is your problem — structured requests, IT/HR tickets, a public support portal — and email is just one of several channels.

4. Crmble — a CRM that logs email, not an email tool

Crmble is a Trello CRM: contacts, deals, lead capture from forms and ads, dashboards. Its email story is activity sync — conversations from connected Google and Microsoft accounts appear as snippets on deal cards, and you can send from a card.

Trade-offs: there's no inbox view, no triage, no thread management — email is evidence on a deal, not a workflow. Single seat-based plan (reported around $5/user/month annual; 21-day trial).

Pick it if: you're building a sales pipeline in Trello and email logging is enough.

5. Gmelius — live in Gmail, mirror into Trello

6. Zapier / Make — the DIY route (plus the free fallback)

Automation platforms can watch Gmail and create Trello cards — genuinely flexible, and the right call when email→card is one step in a longer cross-app chain. The costs are structural: polling delays, attachments arriving as links rather than files, per-email task metering, and no way to read or answer mail from Trello. And the genuinely free fallback: Trello's own email-to-board. One-way, anonymous-sender, 7-day reply window — its limitations are well documented — but for occasional capture it costs nothing.

Names you'll see in old lists (skip them)

• BenkoDesk / BenkoBoard — the pioneering "shared Gmail in Trello" tool is defunct; its domain no longer serves the product. If a listicle recommends it, the listicle is stale.
• Unito — excellent two-way tool-to-tool sync, but it has no Gmail connector, so it can't do inbox→Trello despite appearing in every roundup.
